you people are out of your league
Very interesting. Thanking Allan for encyclopedic knowledge and experience.
interesting discussion. regarding reading... hand-wringing about nobody reading has been around for many decades.
Of course, the smartest artists would have what it takes to put together a team of advisors to run a country (if they were interested in an all-access project). This would actually improve certain things and not just change them. All weapons would disappear. The Defense Forces would be renamed the Refinement Forces. I'm a damn dreamer, you bet!
One thing has to be admitted: The girls try their best not to say anything. New artists, that's a joke, they're babies that are now being shaped for the market. The last generation of artists that had something to say was the generation that started in the 90s (their gallerists were the same generation). What they had in mind was never eloquently integrated into the economy. By this I mean that politics could be equipped with the paradigms of critical art. Art should not follow politics, art should do politics.
Why is the audio always so bad on these videos?!! This is really frustrating! I want to hear this!!
It’s tooooo focused on using Artists and their hard work to make massive profits for themselves
Very nice summary of some of the history of western museums and galleries. If the white cube is no longer relevant, what is the alternative? If critics and curators are irrelevant and art doesn't sell and is not a good investment, why continue to do art? I often think about art made in the Renaissance and Baroque periods where a lot of art was commissioned by wealthy (religious) patrons. Now art is produced solely from the ideas of the artist without being filtered through the wants and needs of the patron. So where are we now?
What about the Artists who have made their careers without Gallery representation? I, for example, sell directly from my studio. What then?
theres no sound
Anyone listening to this conversation is doing themselves a huge favor because whether you work for a museum or are just interested in art, everything Allan Schwartzman talks about is accurate.
Le son n'est pas bon
Wooow
How does an art advisor fire a client? between them and the galleries, the egos are so ridiculous. Thats why as an artist, I would never use them. I'm not your employee, I hire you or we are engage in a business partnership. the artist don't need you. You need the artists.
I think someone with a (gasp!) Sotheby’s or Christie’s degree would have been a better panelist than someone like Lisa Schiff 8:08 who is headed to prison. How embarrassing, and did they forget that the moderator is with Sothebys Institute of Art? 😂
This is good.

This lady is quite aggressive, but I suppose being a journalist for the art world does that to you
Such an awesome talk
I love arts
This dude is such an arrogant dufus.
so is kenny schacter.
No
Off course it's a good thing, why else would they do it.
good talk
They shouldn't work together, ever.
Matt's persona is unbearable. The type that detracts so many from entering a gallery.
He keeps it real. The art game is not a walk in the park
Yes, an art gallery can be considered an institution. Institutions are generally defined as established organizations or systems with a particular purpose, and art galleries certainly fit that definition. Art galleries typically have a specific mission, whether it be to showcase a particular type of art, support emerging artists, or educate the public about art. Moreover, art galleries often have a physical location, a staff of employees, and a set of rules and procedures for how they operate. They may also have a board of directors or trustees who oversee their activities and ensure that they are fulfilling their mission. All of these elements are characteristic of institutions, and thus art galleries can be considered as such.
Thank you for all videos from Symposium 2022! This channel is a wealth of knowledge

Sexy
Great talk, they shared alot of good information.
This man is unconventional obviously but he has so much knowledge and is so kind and approachable. He is real and generous with his knowledge… so what if he’s unconventional he is approachable and not a snob unlike so many people in the “Art World”
Love this guy what a genuine and real person…what a character he’s so personable and very likeable .
This is a great talk!
The best most informative one yet.
Hi my name is Roberto Palacio b. Aug 14 1988 NYC Brooklyn FLATBUSH with Afro Latino descent. Through much research I can say I’m the most genuine version of what a new age Basquiat is considered. Self proclamation is taboo but in a saturated space, it’s worth seeking who can be the person who helps “DISCOVER” me. 💫
Nice talk, thank you! The sound is unfortunately really bad, beeping/buzzing/distortions happening all through the video :/
Whoever has the right qualification for the job and qualities that fit into the company's culture gets the job. Their skin colour or gender orientation should not be a factor whatsoever.
No se escucha nada
Please check your sound
art and tech have never been closer ... bravo to you. a good opener.
18:20 what a load of nonsense.. Physical ? Enough!
Solids are increasingly difficult to liquidate. The "art market" is an exceptional area, but some previously valued art will end up in the difficult family.
Mid level art is and orphan among decorations and collectibles.
There is movement between "high" and "mid" qualifiers.
I totally agree with the point made right before 46:10 min that if everything is super transparent then that leaves little room for the artist price to increase especially in the early stages of their career because then people would be like why am I paying $12,000 for what last week was $8,000 which is honestly how you have to raise your price accordingly
Yeah it’s necessary, my clients hate when I double my prices lol
